Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol

Written by Tom Mula
Directed by Jenn Haltman

December 1-24, 2022

Jacob Marley is dead, as we all know. What we don’t know is that in his death, he has 24 hours to do the impossible: redeem Ebenezer Scrooge, the one man alive who is worse than he. Otherwise, Jacob Marley will be condemned to eternal torment, wearing the very real chains in death that he metaphorically forged in life. Guided by a mischievous imp called a Bogle, Jacob Marley sets out to redeem his former partner, and may just find redemption himself.

“An early holiday present awaits families at Hoboken’s Mile Square Theatre in an exquisitely realized, vibrant production of Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol…This top-notch production absolutely engages audiences as young as nine who appreciate well-honed language, witty direction, and craftily intelligent performances…Christmas Carol is full of inventive performances and twists. This is a wonderful potential first theater gift for audiences. At once explosive, adamant, and touching. The acting, humor, and magical spirit of mercy that is the embodiment of this season (and this play), is expressed flawlessly by the gifted ensemble.”

“Mile Square Theatre usually does comedy well, and director Jenn Haltman helps uphold that tradition. Timing is everything when you’re trying to get a laugh, and she keeps the pacing brisk and precise, especially when the cast interacts with the lighting (which truly makes the magic happen).”

Jim Testa, NJArts.net

“With minimal props, director Jenn Haltman allows these gifted performers an ample playground to effortlessly enrapture us. Graceful movement is an integral part of Haltman’s vision. Whether it was Scrooge’s flight high above London or Marley’s journey through the afterlife, all are executed with gentle distinction and precision.”
